Even if you use these logs, you still need to have your chimney checked and swept once a year. Beware of false advertising; some claim that if these logs are used, the annual sweeping is unnecessary. A company selling this kind of log has already been convicted of false advertising. If you carefully read the package, it is written, (in small characters of course), that a manual sweep is still required.

It is important to remember that these types of logs should only be used for a regular fireplace. For wood stoves it is dangerous to use these logs, not only are they useless but they make the soot go down the chimney and it will accumulate on the deflector or catalyst device and will clog the chimney.
